Online when you click on the word plastering on the search engine, you will be flooded with millions of results. Endless tips on plastering, how to plaster and so on will bombard you and probably even give you information overload. Indeed, there are so many resources to use concerning plastering. But what do you do if the repair job you did is the one that now needs repairing? What are the tips on how to repair the plastering that you did? This article will answer those questions.

Many homes have been plastered in one point of their existence. Plaster, which is a durable and good-looking material, is a very practical step towards home improvement and beautification. Where there are holes or marks on your wall, there is nothing a good amount of plaster can fix. However, there is just one downside to this: plaster can develop cracks in time.

There are those who use latex paint to conceal little plaster cracks, which is fine. But this is only a temporary solution, as it will only last a few weeks or months before the cracks annoyingly start showing up again. And when they do, you would probably want to scratch your head in dismay. The trick here is actually to enlarge the crack and fix it properly all together. It may seem like a strange idea to worsen the damage but the truth is fixing a larger crack is easier than fixing many small ones.

Here are some useful steps on how to repair major cracks in plaster:

Step 1: First, you have to gather the things you will need. Just like with any procedure, it is important to have a complete set of equipment to do the job efficiently. Some of the things you will need to repair a cracked plaster includes utility knife, vacuum cleaner, plaster of paris or premixed plaster repair compound, paintbrushes, scraper or trowel, wood block, medium- or fine-grade sandpaper, primer and paint.

Step 2: Remove loose plaster using the utility knife. Turn the knife to make the gap larger and cleaner. Get rid of any debris but make sure you maintain the structure of the surface around it. Use a vacuum cleaner to clean loose plaster.

Step 3: Combine a thick amount of plaster with water. Use a paintbrush dipped in water to wet the crack thoroughly. Apply plaster of paris or other repair compound of your choice into the wet crack, filling it completely. Smooth the surface with a trowel. Allow it to dry for a least one whole day.

Step 4: Once completely dried, gently sand patch using medium-or fine-grade sandpaper. To make this easier, wrap the sandpaper around the wood block. For very wide cracks, repeat the process to make the surface smoother. Wait for the area to dry for a whole day.

Step 5: Rub with sandpaper again and then apply a thin coat of paint or primer on the area. After it has dried, you can begin painting the entire wall. To recap, get rid of loose plaster, wet the crack, pack it with plaster of paris, smooth the surface and then let it dry before rubbing with sandpaper. Repairing cracks in plaster is not that hard. With the right skills and a good amount of patience, you can restore your wall's beauty and splendour.
